His wife peeked into the kitchen.
“Would you like me to call a plumber?”
“Absolutely not,” Daniel said. “I'm very close to solving this.”
At that moment, a loud splash came from beneath the sink.
Daniel jumped up, grabbed a towel, and rushed to turn off the water.
His wife calmly picked up her phone.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
“Calling the plumber.”
“But I haven't finished!”
She smiled.
“I know. I'm calling him before you decide to fix the bathroom while you're at it.”
2. The Flat-Pack Furniture
Emma bought a beautiful flat-pack bookshelf online and was delighted when it arrived.
The box promised that assembly would be easy and take only thirty minutes.
“Perfect,” she said to her husband. “We'll have this finished before lunch.”
They spread the pieces across the living room floor and opened the instruction manual.
At first, everything went smoothly.
Then they discovered that two pieces looked almost identical, the screws seemed to have multiplied, and the instructions contained a diagram that neither of them could understand.
After an hour, Emma held up a wooden panel.
“Where does this go?”
Her husband examined it carefully.
“I'm not sure. Perhaps it's the back.”
“But the back is already attached.”
They stared at the bookshelf.
Something was definitely wrong.
Another thirty minutes passed before Emma noticed that they had assembled one section upside down.
Her husband sighed.
“Let's take it apart and start again.”
Emma looked at the remaining screws, then at the clock.
“Actually, I have a better idea.”
“What?”
“Let's put the instruction manual inside the bookshelf and tell everyone it's a modern art installation.”
3. The Fresh Coat of Paint
Mark decided to give his living room a fresh coat of paint over the weekend.
He bought the paint, covered the furniture, and watched a short tutorial about painting walls like a professional.
“This will be easy,” he announced.
His wife raised an eyebrow.
“Have you ever painted a room before?”
“No, but I've watched someone do it.”
She decided not to argue.
Mark started enthusiastically, rolling paint across the walls and humming to himself.
Within an hour, he had painted most of the room.
Unfortunately, he had also painted part of the ceiling, splashed the carpet, and left several fingerprints on the door.
His wife walked in and surveyed the scene.
“Mark, what happened to the carpet?”
“An accident.”
“And the ceiling?”
“An unexpected extension of the project.”
She pointed at a large paint mark on his shirt.
“And that?”
Mark looked down.
“That's where I became one with the wall.”
His wife sighed.
“Next time, perhaps we should hire a professional.”
Mark nodded thoughtfully.
“Agreed. But I think I'll finish this room first.”
She looked at the half-painted wall.
“Mark, you've painted the same wall three different shades.”
He examined it closely.
Then he smiled.
“It's called a feature wall.”
