David nodded.
“Yes. I can hear every song from my bedroom.”
The neighbor apologized.
“Oh, I'm sorry. I'll turn it down.”
David thanked him and went back home.
Five minutes later, the music became even louder.
David knocked again.
“I thought you were going to turn it down.”
The neighbor smiled.
“I did.”
David stared at him.
“Then why is it louder?”
The neighbor shrugged.
“I moved the speaker closer to the window.”
David took a deep breath.
“I think we have different definitions of the word ‘down.’”
2. The Unexpected Visitor
Sarah was relaxing at home when someone knocked on her door.
She opened it and saw her neighbor standing there.
“Hi, Sarah,” he said. “I'm sorry to bother you. Could I borrow a cup of sugar?”
“Sure,” Sarah replied.
She went into the kitchen, filled a cup with sugar, and handed it to him.
“Thank you,” he said.
“No problem.”
The next day, there was another knock.
It was the same neighbor.
“Sarah, could I borrow some salt?”
She gave him the salt.
The following day, he came back.
“Do you happen to have some cooking oil?”
Sarah handed it to him.
The next morning, she heard another knock.
She opened the door.
The neighbor smiled.
“Do you have any…”
Sarah raised her hand.
“Before you ask, let me guess. You need something from the kitchen.”
He nodded.
Sarah sighed.
“You know, you could just come over for dinner.”
He smiled.
“That was actually my plan. I was just collecting the ingredients first.”
3. The Neighborhood Watch
Tom joined the neighborhood watch because he wanted to help keep everyone safe.
At the first meeting, the organizer said, “We need everyone to report anything suspicious.”
Tom nodded seriously.
“I've already noticed something.”
“What is it?” the organizer asked.
“Mr. Wilson across the street.”
“What's suspicious about him?”
“He leaves his house every morning at exactly 8:00.”
The organizer frowned.
“That doesn't sound suspicious.”
Tom shook his head.
“Exactly. It's too consistent.”
The organizer sighed.
“Tom, having a routine isn't suspicious.”
Tom thought about it.
“Okay. But I'll keep watching.”
The organizer smiled.
“Please do.”
Tom nodded.
“That's what I'm good at.”
Then he whispered, “By the way, your curtains have been open for three days.”
The organizer stared at him.
“Tom…”
“Yes?”
“Maybe stop watching.”
Tom smiled.
“That's exactly what someone who wants to avoid being watched would say.”
