“This is mine.”

“Cake? What cake?”
She pointed at the refrigerator.
“That cake.”
James looked inside again.
“Oh, that? I wasn't going to eat it.”

“Then why were you standing in front of the refrigerator with a fork?”

He paused.
“I was… checking its freshness.”
She laughed.
“By eating it?”
James smiled.
“That's the most reliable test.”
2. “I’m Not Hungry”
Linda invited her friend Sarah over for dinner.
When Sarah arrived, Linda asked, “Are you hungry?”
Sarah shook her head.
“No, I'm fine. I already ate.”
Linda nodded and started eating.
Five minutes later, Sarah looked at the plate.
“That looks really good.”
Linda continued eating.
“Thanks.”
Sarah watched another bite disappear.
“What did you put in that?”
“Chicken, rice and vegetables.”
Sarah nodded.
“Interesting.”
Another bite.
“Is the chicken spicy?”
“A little.”
Sarah nodded again.
“Okay.”
Linda finally looked at her.
“You said you weren't hungry.”
Sarah smiled.
“I’m not hungry. I'm just interested in your food.”
Linda pushed the plate toward her.
Sarah immediately picked up a fork.
“Thank you. My research is beginning.”
3. The Diet
Mark announced to his friends that he was starting a strict diet.
“No more junk food,” he declared. “I'm going to eat healthy from now on.”
His friends applauded.
“That’s great!”
The next morning, Mark walked into the office carrying a large bag.
His friend looked inside.
“Isn't that a burger?”
Mark nodded.
“Yes.”
“And fries?”
“Yes.”
“And a milkshake?”
Mark sighed.
“I know what you're thinking.”
His friend smiled.
“You're supposed to be dieting.”
“I am dieting.”
“How?”
Mark opened the bag.
“I ordered a salad too.”
