1. The Morning Alarm
Every morning, my alarm clock rings at 6:30, and I confidently tell myself, “Today, I’m getting up immediately.” Then I hit snooze and make the same promise at 6:40, 6:50, and 7:00.
At this point, my alarm clock doesn’t wake me up anymore. It just gives me regular opportunities to reconsider my life choices.
2. The Laundry Chair
I have a special chair in my bedroom where clean clothes go after they come out of the laundry. Technically, they’re clean, but they’re not quite ready for the closet.
Yesterday, I realized the chair has been holding the same pile for so long that I’m beginning to think of it as furniture.
I didn’t buy a laundry chair. I accidentally created one.
3. The Grocery List
I made a very organized grocery list before going to the store. I even grouped everything by section so I could shop quickly and efficiently.
Then I got to the store and immediately forgot where half the things were.
I spent twenty minutes walking around with my list like a detective investigating a mystery.
The only thing I successfully found was the snack aisle. That part of my brain works perfectly.
4. The Missing Glasses
I once spent ten minutes looking everywhere for my glasses. I checked the kitchen, the bedroom, the table, and even looked under the couch.
Then I finally found them.
They were sitting on top of my head the entire time.
Apparently, my glasses weren’t missing. My common sense was.
5. The Coffee Decision
I stood in the kitchen this morning trying to decide whether I really needed another cup of coffee.
I told myself, “Think carefully. Do you actually need it, or are you just drinking it out of habit?”
Then I remembered I was having a serious conversation with myself before breakfast.
I made the coffee. Clearly, the meeting needed refreshments.
6. The Phone Search
I was looking everywhere for my phone yesterday. I checked the sofa cushions, searched the kitchen counter, and even retraced my steps around the house.
After several minutes, I finally found it.
I had been holding it in my hand the entire time.
My phone wasn’t lost. It was just enjoying watching me panic.
7. The Cooking Adventure
I decided to cook something new for dinner and followed the recipe very carefully. I measured everything, checked the instructions twice, and even set a timer.
When it was finally ready, I proudly took the first bite.
It tasted nothing like the picture.
That’s when I realized the recipe had promised “serves four,” but it never promised they would come back.
8. The Weekend Plan
On Friday evening, I made a long list of everything I wanted to accomplish over the weekend: cleaning, organizing, exercising, reading, and finally fixing that little thing I’ve been ignoring for months.
Saturday morning arrived, and I looked at the list.
Then I looked at the sofa.
The sofa looked comfortable.
By Sunday evening, my biggest achievement was moving from the sofa to the refrigerator without taking a break.
9. The Automatic Door
I walked up to an automatic door at a store and waited for it to open.
It didn’t.
I stepped closer.
Nothing.
I waved my hand in front of it like I was performing a magic trick, and still nothing happened.
Then I realized I was standing in front of a regular glass window.
The door wasn’t broken. My confidence was.
10. The To-Do List
I wrote a detailed to-do list this morning because I wanted to feel productive.
The first task was “Make a to-do list.”
I checked it off immediately.
For the next hour, I felt fantastic. I had completed something, and I was already ahead of schedule.
Then I realized I had spent the entire morning celebrating the preparation for productivity.
Sometimes, the hardest part of getting things done is getting past the part where you congratulate yourself for planning to do them.
